Proud new father credits baby for lucky lotto

Proud new father credits baby for lucky lotto Richmond B.C., March 5, 2009 – The last of three British Columbians who won a share of February's record Lotto 6/49 jackpot has claimed his prize of almost a quarter-million dollars.

Burnaby's Elad Shoval visited BCLC's Richmond office today to collect a cheque for $224,863.70.

Like fellow winners Howard Reid of Nanaimo and Lydia Glas of Maple Ridge, who each claimed last week, Shoval matched five-out-of-six numbers plus the bonus number on the February 21, 2009 draw.

The 33-year-old sales consultant, who is the proud father of a baby boy, credits his new son for his newfound luck.

"I play Lotto 6/49 and Super 7 every week, but I've never won such a big prize," said Shoval. "I think the new baby has brought new luck to our family. It's nice because now people have to congratulate us twice!"

After picking up his cheque, Elad was off to the hospital to visit wife Yifat and perhaps pick out a name for their newest addition. So, how about "Lucky"?

"We're considering it," laughed Elad. "But, we'll probably go with something more traditional."

Shoval purchased his lucky ticket at the Rumble Market at the corner of Rumble St. and Gilley in Burnaby.

Lotto 6/49 is the nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PST). Players can purchase tickets at any lottery retailer or at PlayNow on bclc.com.
