School bus driver 'Extra' close to retirement
August 26, 2009, Richmond, B.C. – A Victoria school bus driver is considering early retirement after winning the top prize on a recent Extra draw.
Robert Currie, who works for the Sooke School District #62, said "yes" to the Extra and wound up winning the top prize of $500,000.
After checking his lucky ticket twice "just to be sure," Currie paid a visit to a local retailer who confirmed his win. Boarding a ferry for the mainland, Currie's next stop was BCLC's Richmond office, where he received a cheque for a half-million bucks!
The 55-year-old says he plans to bank the money for now, while he considers an early retirement and a permanent parking spot for the school bus.
Congratulations Robert!
Currie's lucky ticket was purchased at Save-On-Foods on Blanshard Street in Victoria.
Extra is the BC-only lottery game with a top prize of $500,000. Available for purchase with Lotto 6/49, Lotto Super 7, and BC/49 at any lottery retailer or PlayNow at bclc.com.
